Micah Richards believes Arsenal must strengthen their attack by signing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, following a narrow win over Manchester United.
Arsenal started their Premier League season with a 1–0 win against Manchester United, but football pundit Micah Richards believes the team still needs reinforcements. He has urged Arsenal to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who is valued at £80 million.
Although Arsenal secured three points at Old Trafford, their attacking performance was far from convincing. The only goal came from defender Riccardo Calafiori, following a mistake by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
Arsenal’s left-wing options struggled, with Gabriel Martinelli only creating one chance before being replaced by Noni Madueke, who failed to make an impact and is more comfortable on the right wing.
Micah Richards commented on The Rest is Football podcast that Arsenal are “a left winger short or a left forward short.” He believes Rodrygo could be the perfect solution.
Why Rodrygo Is the Right Fit for Arsenal
Rodrygo is a 24-year-old Brazilian winger who plays for Real Madrid. Known for his pace, creativity, and versatility, Rodrygo has been linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer.
Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling him for around £80 million. Richards believes that signing Rodrygo would “solve a lot of problems” for Arsenal and strengthen their attack significantly.
Despite concerns about Arsenal’s left wing, Richards praised the club’s overall squad depth, mentioning young talents like Myles Lewis-Skelly, who impressed off the bench, and Jurrien Timber, who demonstrated defensive versatility.
Arteta’s ability to rotate full-backs without losing quality was highlighted as a major strength.
Arteta Reacts to the Victory
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged that the team was not at its best but praised their determination. He said:
“We showed a resilience and a will to win. They put you on the ropes here, you will have to have moments when you suffer. To find a way to win at this ground, I’m very happy with the team.
Arsenal will face Leeds United in their next Premier League match. With the transfer window still open, fans are eager to see if the club will act on Richards’ advice and pursue Rodrygo.
