Arsenal’s captain and midfield maestro, Martin Odegaard, has been nominated for the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award for the 2023/24 season. This marks the second consecutive year that Odegaard has been shortlisted for this honor, reflecting his consistent excellence and influence on the pitch.
Odegaard’s nomination comes on the back of an outstanding season where he played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s campaign. The Norwegian international featured in 48 of Arsenal’s 52 matches across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists. His creativity and vision were unmatched, as he created more chances from open play than any other player in the Premier League, with a total of 88 chances.
Martin Odegaard’s leadership was instrumental in guiding the team through a challenging season. His work rate was exemplary, covering 401 kilometers in 35 league appearances, which was among the highest in the division. His ability to control the tempo of the game, as well as to make decisive plays, made him a consistent top performer.
Odegaard faces stiff competition for the PFA Player of the Year award. The other nominees include his international teammate Erling Haaland, who is aiming for his second consecutive PFA title after another prolific season with Manchester City. Phil Foden and Rodri, also from Manchester City are on the shortlist. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who had a remarkable season with 19 goals and 13 assists, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who is also nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, complete the list of contenders.
The winner of the PFA Player of the Year award will be announced at the PFA’s award ceremony in Manchester on August 20.
