Premier League transfer windows split for 2025. New format supports Club World Cup schedule and aligns with FIFA’s 16-week rule.
Premier League transfer windows will be split into two phases in 2025. The league confirmed this adjustment to accommodate the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which runs from June 15 to July 13 in the United States.
The first transfer window will run from June 1 to June 10. This early phase allows clubs to complete deals before the tournament begins. After a short break, the second window will reopen on June 16 and close on September 1.

This structure aligns with the traditional European transfer calendar.
Chelsea and Manchester City Benefit from Early Access
Chelsea and Manchester City, the Premier League’s Club World Cup representatives, will benefit from the early window. It gives them time to reinforce their squads before facing global competition. FIFA also approved a mid-tournament registration period from June 27 to July 3.
This allows clubs to sign players for the knockout stages.
Premier League Transfer Windows Comply with FIFA Rules
The decision to split the summer window follows FIFA’s rule limiting transfer periods to 16 weeks per calendar year. By dividing the window, the Premier League stays within the 12-week summer limit while aligning with other European leagues.
This move ensures fairness across all top-flight clubs.
Contract and Negotiation Challenges May Arise
While the split window offers flexibility, it raises concerns about player contracts. Players with deals expiring on June 30 may face uncertainty. Negotiations could become more complex as clubs navigate overlapping registration periods.
Agents and clubs must adapt quickly to the new structure.
